If you want to know how the welding supply industry is reacting to the cordless market, take a gander at the Trek 180 battery-powered MIG Welder. It’s awesomeness in a 52-lb. box. We’re not saying this is meant to replace a larger shop model, and neither is Hobart. What the Trek 180 is designed to do is take care of small jobs when you are away from anything resembling civilization. The rig can run off its own 120 amp 17VDC battery or from an 115V power outlet with a 20 percent duty cycle.

Why should companies that manage their own UGC care about truckers and slow welding shops? I would say most of the time they shouldn’t, but for the next 500 words or so it’s okay to care. A few years back my father was going through a lean summer, traditionally this is when he would generate the majority of his revenue. Being a smart small business owner he saw that the landscape around his business was changing – people were having less and less need for a neighbourhood welding shop. He need

Taken from Solutions: Problem Steel: Among the low alloy steels, there is also a large group of special steels with complicated chemical composition. These include spring steel, vanadium steel, high speed steel, tool steel, etc. All these steel types are difficult to weld. In many cases the steel has been hardened by annealing, and welding can destroy the hardening. In principle, all these steels can be welded with matching ferritic consumables with the aid of preheating and postweld heat treatm

The Advantages Of New Fibre Laser Welding Techniques

A fuel cell is an electro chemical energy conversion device, which produces electricity from external supplies of fuel (on the anode side) and oxidant (on the cathode side). These react in the presence of an electrolyte to produce energy. Since a typical fuel cell produces less than one volt, in practical application cells are ’stacked’ in parallel to create a useful voltage. Thus a typical fuel cell is made up of many thin sheets, usually of stainless steel, which must be welded together to for

Published By MattOn:21 October 2009 1:31 PM CEST Source This close-up view of the friction stir weld tack tool used to manufacture of space shuttle external tanks shows the process of tack welding barrel panels together. Barrels were previously fabricated using traditional fusion welding, but friction stir welding is different in that the materials are not melted. A rotating tool pin uses friction and applied pressure to join the 20-foot longitudinal panels together. Friction stir welding is th
